East of Eden, John Steinbeck
A profound classic, whose insights will be explored by Jim Brommers Bergquist in one of our morning sessions.

Paul Hawkinson
After a 17-year Wall Street career, Paul has worked to develop a portfolio of projects that are personally meaningful. This portfolio includes direct investing, executive coaching, as well as strategic and board advisory roles in startup ventures, social Impact platforms and non-profit organizations. Paul has also served as a mentor, frequent speaker and professional faculty member. A common theme in these settings has been the "intersection" of innovation, leadership, faith, strategy and finance - pursuing a lifelong desire to devote more of his time in the service of disinvested local communities.Paul is particularly drawn to creative economic development within the Chicago area. where he seeks to engage his gifts and values in the service of others.
Jim Brommers Bergquist
Jim has spent his career leading retreats and groups, for many years as Retreat Minister at Seattle University, and while serving several large churches across the country.
While no longer theologically comfortable working in churches, Jim believes in the importance of community, honesty, self-knowledge, integration, and the service of others. He currently lives in Santa Barbara, and runs a small construction remodeling business while developing programs to support the mental health and wellness of young adults.
*He is also one of the few people who has weighed more than Dan Lynch (he was a 280 pound Small College Football All-American), but he never benched over 320 :)
